Seat’s Taken, 2020-2021, 840 x 590 x 1020 mm, Red Blue chair, painted MDF, wood plugs, screws, wood filler, marker, lacquer

In the process of permanently ruining a national insignia of design as famous as the Red Blue Chair (Rietveldstoel, 1918-1923), a 100 year aged collaboration between legendary architect and furniture maker Gerrit Rietveld and, someone resembling just that but younger, Koen Van Eeckhoutte is called into existence.

Taking another man’s seat whilst blatantly scanting death as a character is as literally expressed in Seat’s Taken as it is symbolically intended. Until death do us part.
